Michael G. Smith (AKA) Big Mike was born in Montego Bay, Jamaica, W.I., on June 14.  He is the 9th of nine children born to Rupert and Hilda Smith.  Big Mike grew up between Jamaica, London, and US.  He attended St. Peter Cleaver Elementary and completed his high years’ between Kingston College and Norland Senior High School in Miami Gardens, FL.

From there he enrolled into Miami Dade College North Campus, it was there that he developed his love for music.  He began working on campus at the Audio Visual Department which leads him to the college radio station, soon after he began to DJ part-time.

After graduating Miami Dade College with an Associate Degree in Aviation, he intern briefly at WAVS 1170am radio.  He then moved on to building his own sound system call “Sudden Impact” which earned him the name “Mix Master Mike”.

Before long, Big Mike move on to building several new careers such as: Law Enforcement at in the US Air Force reserves, building and constructions trades (i.e. welding and fabrication of miscellaneous metals)  He specialist in ship construction and project management.  This was only the beginning of lifestyle filled with a multitude of careers and exciting opportunities to be all he could be.

Still have the need to learn more he enrolled again in the Miami Dade College fire safety program to earn a six-month fire safety certification. He later attends FAU to earning a degree in business entrepreneurship.  As he was taught by his parents to never stop learning because education is keys to success, and when “one door closes open another one”.

Throughout his career which span over 30 years Big Mike is still spinning tunes from Reggae, Hip Hop, R&B and soul.  Finally, Big Mike decided to go back to  where it all started by enrolling in the Miami Media School to horn and fine tune the skills learned so many years ago in audio and video media, and is now a graduate of Miami Media School.  So keep it locked to Dagr8fm.com each and every Saturday morning from 10am – 2pm and Sunday from 1pm – 3pm for the Big Mike Show, which promises to entertain, educate, engage and energize his listeners…………………
